A Plastic Problem

Our oceans are filling with plastic. This is happening at such an alarming rate that some scientists suggest that our oceans will be home to more plastic than fish by 2050. As only 7% of plastic waste is currently recycled, that number continues to grow.

Read on to learn more about how plastic is affecting our oceans!

What is a gyre?

Gyres are dense patches of floating waste in our oceans. They are the result of strong winds and ocean currents pushing debris together in areas that grow larger with each used straw, broken fishing net and disposible shopping bag that isn’t properly recycled.
